Tips for a Better Criminal Background Search Investigation Checks
First Name - Enter legal name, (i.e. "Michael" instead of
"Mike", "David" instead of "Dave") However if your subject often uses a
nickname or Alias you may want to use that if subject used it when/if was
arrested or convicted.
Middle Initial - Is not required however will help narrow down
subject for common names.
Last Name - Enter Last Name only. Correct spelling is very
important. If your subject is or was married or had a name change use name you
want checked.
Birth Year - This is not required. But keep in
mind that not every court or jurisdiction enters or provides a DOB or YOB in a
criminal record.
It is advised to enter a Birth Year to reduce the number of records returned for
common names.
Note: If you search with the Name and Birth Year and a record
in the system does not contain a Birth Year but the Name still matches, we will
return that record anyway. This is done in an effort to provide the most
comprehensive results available.
Each distinct name or alias constitutes a separate criminal record search.
Criminal record searches are constructed to search felony and/or misdemeanors
for the last seven to ten years. Not all jurisdictions provide BOTH felony and
misdemeanor records.
